WHY THE BIKE?

This is by far the most common question we get! Bikes are quite a common  way for people, and especially young people, to get around. Throughout the North and East, bikes are the predominant mode of transportation. The bike allows young people physical access to education, a social life, and public spaces.

Sunayra is dedicated to providing tools for young people to emotionally and mentally access those resources and spaces, and create those same things for themselves. We want to see these young people Moving Forward.

WHAT DOES SUNAYRA MEAN?

We tried to find a name that would encompass our mission, while at the same time be inclusive and memorable. It was no easy feat! So we combined parts of our name, and made something new. How's that for innovative?

WHAT ABOUT MATH AND SCIENCE?

Math and science, as well as social sciences, the humanities, vocational training, and business are all important. We see that creative and critical thinking skills are not being taught, and those are important to elevate any field of study into engaged academics, innovative business, and scientific discovery. We don't think the arts are more important, but we do think that all subjects are equally necessary for any sort of social and economic development.

WHY WORK WITH TEENAGERS?

Do you remember a teacher that inspired you? Made you feel important, special, and smart? When did you have that teacher? For many, it's during our teenage or early adult years. These are critical ages, that can have a profound impact on how people see themselves, cope with adversity, and relate to others. Providing our unique programming at this point gives teenagers the skills and self confidence to see them into adulthood.
